What Is The Treatment For Flat Feet?

Flat feet happen when the arches of your feet collapse or are loose and produce daily discomfort. A flat foot presents itself at any age. Arches are known to become less stable over time and the tendons in your ankle suffer as a result. The arch of your foot will start to lose its strength which can have a harmful effect on your stability. Those situations causing a higher probability of developing flat feet include diabetes or severe injuries that impact the arches of your feet.

ALLEVIATE FLAT FOOT PAIN BY TRYING THESE TECHNIQUES:

  • Use foot support devices such as custom orthotics to support and raise the arch by aligning the foot’s structures into a more suitable location. It is this structural support that reduces the amount of muscular pain.

  • Stretch and participate in physical therapy as much as possible to reduce the pain of arthritis.

  • Try to walk barefoot because it will help the muscles of the foot become more active and grow sturdier. By allowing the tendons in your feet to grow stronger, you will help offset the pain of your flat feet.

  • Surgery may be required for flat feet depending on age. The severity of the pain will determine the type of procedure to occur. This may include using an implant to help support the bones of your feet. Often though, surgery will include tendon transfers to provide for realignment. Joint fusions are on the extreme end of the type of surgery used.
